How can I get my license back after four DUIs?
I had 4 DUIs starting in 1979 (unlawful blood alcohol) the last one in 2004. I am now on disability and need to drive to the store and doctors. How can I get my license back?LawQA.com Answer Library

It will be necessary to retake the Multi Offender Program. Also it may be necessary to get a medical clearance, depending on your disability. The easiest way to find out is to check with DMV. The courts don't get as involved anymore. But when you go to DMV don't emphasize your disability.

It depends on how recent some of your DUI's are. You need to consult an attorney or contact DMV.

You must complete the multiple offender program. Get SR-22 insurance and pay the DMV.

It depends on how many DUIs within 10 years you have which class you'll have to complete, but usually you have to finish the 3 or 18 month alcohol class.

If you have completed all of your probation conditions and completed the court ordered Alcohol classes you can apply for the issuance of your license upon showing proof of insurance with SR 22.

The ones that are over 10 years old don't count, so you need to add up all the DUI's you've had the last 10 years. Chances are you will need to complete a SB-38 / 18-month Alcohol Program before the DMV will let you apply for a driver's license (your status is probably "revoked" right now).

After a 4th DUI, your license was probably suspended for 4 years. You were also probably ordered to complete the SB-38 18-month alcohol class. The DMV will not reissue you a license until you have completed the class. Talk to your local DMV field office about the SR-22 requirements and re-issuance fees.
